Yarramie - (little creek)

A human space in a natural environment

For many years Sandra and Wayne searched for an environment and lifestyle beyond the conveniences of the busy suburban life of Sydney. They fell in love with Pittwater and Offshore living. An area where they had to travel to in a boat with no road access.

The property they discovered had a good aesthetic on the outside, however internally had a cluttered, confusing and congested floorplan.

The home featured a stunning water course beside the home, uncommon in suburban homes and was embedded in the natural environs of Kuring Gai National Park.

Our brief was to create a home that reflected the simplicity and tranquility of its location and one that embodied a strong design aesthetic. To this end, the footprint of the home remained untouched, however the internal spaces, were essentially deconstructed. Walls, rooms, balconies and even a floor were removed to create a fresh open space that celebrated the grand vaulted canopy that surrounded it.

Unencumbered, elements such as the fireplace and staircase provided an uplifting sculptural presence. Their new home featured expansive, airy spaces, increased internal roof heights, tall windows and doors and bespoke cabinetry and fittings.

The result was transformational. A home that not only reflected the design sensibilities of the clients, but one that was at peace with the land that it occupied.

Outcome

• Sunlight filters into the home perched within the canopy of the landscape
• Colours, textures, playful gestures, this extraordinary house is very much a home.
