Reid
Reid
Inner city suburb sanctum
The quintessential inner western suburb home; Reid. Named after the electoral division, in turn named after the 4th Prime Minister of Australia.
Respectful of the planning history and dominant building stock, Reid explores the current environmental concerns of circularity, energy efficiency and sustainability.
The external form plays homage to its humble origins as a Federation cottage within a neighbourhood of similar era homes.
The colour and emphasis of the external brickwork discovered under thick cement render was celebrated and continued for the 2nd storey façade to give the house great street presence and personality.
Internally Reid provides multifunctional living spaces that delight. The Owners’ eye for detail extends into beautiful finishing and furnishings.
Harsh western sunlight dominates the living areas due to site configuration. Automatic external blinds help to control the internal environment. Along the northern orientation, eaves over highlight glazing are offset from the boundary to allow winter sunlight deep into the interior spaces. Thermal comfort is paramount with smart lighting, remote control sun shading and insulated wall cavities.
This is a wonderful home for a modern family, adaptable for growing children, working from home, and ageing in place. It accommodates guests and comfortably hosts large family gatherings.
Visiting this home is a real treat; the joy of the spaces, the drama of the light, the functioning of the zones and the warmth of the materials.
Outcome
• Solar opportunites maximised from the long thin site built to the northern boundary
• Flexible floorplan with private and social spaces.
